No problem, because the money can often be recouped on your tax return. Find out how you can deduct your desk from your taxes here.  

Important notice: This article refers to Germany only - although similar concepts of getting financial support for your desk might exist in your country!

The easiest and (always successful) way to get money refunded is to have your desk tax deducted. You can claim up to 800 euros net for your height adjustable desk.  In order to deduct your home office desk from tax, the following condition must be met:

The desk must be used as a "work desk" or for professional purposes. The chances are then higher that the tax office will accept the claim.  

The "professional" use of the table should account for at least 10% of the total use. Tip: If you use the table more than 90% professionally, you can deduct the purchase costs completely.  

All costs incurred for the purchase can be entered in your tax return as income-related expenses in Appendix N.  In addition to the purchase costs, you can also include the costs for repairs, cleaning and maintenance in your tax return. There is a predefined lump sum of 110 euros for this, for which you generally do not need any proof.  If the purchase value of the table is a maximum of 800 Euros net (i.e. approx. 952 Euros gross), you can even deduct the entire repair price of the table from your tax return.

In addition to the purchase costs, you can also include the costs for repairs, cleaning and maintenance in your tax return. There is a predefined lump sum of 110 euros for this, for which you generally do not need any proof.  

If the purchase value of the table is a maximum of 800 Euros net (i.e. approx. 952 Euros gross), you can even deduct the entire repair price of the table from your tax return.

Desk is more expensive than 800 euros net? 

If the desk cost more than 800 euros net, you cannot immediately deduct the costs. In this case, you must take into account the legally prescribed useful life of 13 years for office furniture. The costs are therefore spread over 13 years, i.e. you can write off 1/13 of the expenditure per year. Depreciation is called "Absetzung für Abnutzung" (AfA) in tax office German.

Allowance in case of illness or disability.

Attention. It is important to note that all necessary applications must first be submitted and approved before deciding to purchase the furniture. It is not possible to get the subsidy after the fact.  

In recent years, studies have shown that ergonomic office furniture has significantly improved the health of users. This is a significant improvement in the quality of life of the consumer. If you need an ergonomic or height-adjustable desk for health reasons, various cost units provide a subsidy. You can find out which ones in this article.  

One thing in advance: since 2018, a subsidy of a height-adjustable desk can only be applied for under special circumstances.

Subsidy from the employer for height-adjustable desks. 

The health insurance and the pension insurance give the employer the duty to provide ergonomic work equipment (among other things office furniture). In general, however, the employer can resort to less expensive means (such as a height-adjustable desk attachment). According to the German Pension Insurance, the employer must ensure that applicable occupational health and safety legislation is complied with.

There must already be a chronic illness (e.g., a back condition) for the employer to be made to cover the cost of a height-adjustable desk. The situation is different if the employee has been unable to work for more than 42 calendar days in the past twelve calendar months due to the complaints. In these cases, a so-called company integration management takes place in which the company doctor, the affected person, the superiors and, if available, the works council discuss the future course of action and possible solutions.

In order for the employer to cover the costs of the table, you must present a medical certificate. Your first point of contact should therefore be either the company doctor or the family doctor.

Subsidy from the employment agency for height-adjustable desks.

Cost subsidy through "Leistungen zur Teilhabe am Arbeitsleben".  

Benefits for participation in working life, or LTA for short, are aimed at people with mental or physical disabilities. The LTA is intended to enable those affected to start, improve or restore work. Height-adjustable tables fall into the category of "technical work aids.

Services for participation in working life are provided by various rehabilitation agencies. In order to apply for an LTA, you first need a medical certificate, a cost estimate from the table manufacturer (or the price) and a completed application form. You can find the form on the page of the respective rehabilitation provider. If it is determined that you need an ergonomically height-adjustable table due to your health situation, then it is possible that the Employment Agency or another rehabilitation provider (e.g. the Employer's Liability Insurance Association or the Integration Office) will cover the costs. 

The Employment Agency will cover the costs if you have not yet been employed for 15 years and are required to pay contributions.

Pension insurance subsidy for height-adjustable desks.

The rehabilitation agencies, such as the German Pension Insurance, refer to the Occupational Safety and Health Act. As already mentioned, the employer is primarily responsible for the ergonomic equipment of the workplace. For this reason, there is, for example, no obligation to pay benefits on the part of the pension insurance when it comes to height-adjustable desks.  

The pension insurance covers the costs if it is a matter of disability-related individual equipment of the workplace, which goes beyond the obligation of the employer.

Health insurance subsidy for height-adjustable desks

As a rule, health insurance funds also provide benefits for participation in working life (LTA). However, they are not legally obligated to cover the applications or costs, so the health insurance company should be the last point of contact for the cost subsidy. To do this, you should contact your health insurance company and ask for the LTA application.

Allowance for accidents at work or on the way to work

If you need a height-adjustable table because you have suffered an accident at work or on the way to work, the statutory accident insurance institutions or employers' liability insurance associations are responsible for covering the costs.

Cost subsidy through "Leistungen zur Teilhabe am Arbeitsleben".In certain cases, the Integration Office or even the public youth welfare agency will also cover the cost of a height-adjustable table.

Overall, we can say that there are several ways to get a grant for a height-adjustable table. Office chairs are generally subsidized more and better than desks. Health insurance subsidies for standing desks are unfortunately no longer as common. You can easily apply for a subsidy for office chairs at your health insurance company.

Advantages and disadvantages of a gaming chair

The perfect chair should allow natural movements and adapt to its owner. It is important that the chair adjusts precisely to the body dimensions and supports a healthy sitting posture. But why buy a gaming chair and not a normal office chair? Is there any difference at all?

First of all, gaming chairs usually look better. The most common form of gaming chair is already known from racing, hence the name “racing chair”. This specific shape is based on a bucket seat (also known as a racing seat) and ensures a stable sitting position. In addition, the gaming chair’s shape enhances the game feel for some gamers, as you think you are sitting in a Lamborghini while playing Need for Speed. The design of a gaming chair also looks more futuristic and generally matches your gaming desk better. However, due to the bucket seat, a point deduction must be made in the area of ergonomics. The seat has an elevation on the right and left, which also gives you fewer options for movement. If you like to sit with both legs crossed, you need to know that the elevations of a gaming chair impair blood circulation compared to a normal office chair. 

Gaming chairs are usually made of PU leather or real leather, whereas normal or ergonomic office chairs can be bought in different materials. This gives you more choice than with gaming chairs. The advantages of a gaming chair with real leather are mainly that you do not sweat when sitting, the chair is buttery soft and very durable and robust. In addition, signs of wear and tear hardly ever occur with a genuine leather chair. The disadvantage of such a gaming chair, however, is cleaning. Real leather is not waterproof and stains can therefore appear very quickly if you are not careful enough. Cleaning is very time-consuming, so it is generally recommended to buy a leather chair in a black leather colour. The surface of PU leather is usually made of plastic, i.e. soft PVC or polyurethane. The coating is waterproof and therefore you generally sweat more quickly when sitting. However, artificial leather is much easier to care for than real leather, because real leather needs to be treated with leather grease (oil or wax) from time to time to keep it supple and to prevent it from drying out. Cleaning imitation leather is also much easier because, unlike real leather, the material is not sensitive to commercially available cleaning agents. When buying a PU leather gaming chair, you should definitely pay attention to the quality, because high-quality artificial leather is similar to real leather in terms of appearance and resilience.  

Ultimately, it can be said that good gamer chairs are often sturdier and more durable than normal, cheaper office chairs. So you don’t have to worry about needing a new chair in one year. Even the cheapest versions have more ergonomic adjustments than the regular office chair, but sometimes make sacrifices in build quality. More expensive ergonomic office chairs are also a great option because they have different shapes and are made of different materials. This gives you the possibility to choose from several shapes and materials. Therefore, you have much more freedom to find a suitable gaming chair that has many ergonomic settings.

What should you look for when buying a gaming chair?

First of all, you need to know that your height and weight play a crucial role when buying a gaming chair. Tall people need a different chair than smaller, lighter people. This also means that some manufacturers differentiate between chairs for women and for men. Here it is important to check the manufacturer’s specifications to see if the chair is even tailored for you.

Every person has an individual body size and is therefore not suitable for every chair. Therefore, it is very important that the chair is height-adjustable. If you are not sure at which height you should adjust your chair, then various portals on the Internet can help you, where you can calculate the optimal desk and seat height on the basis of your body height.

Armrests help to relax the shoulder and neck area. The armrest generally depends on the length of your upper arm. If your upper and lower arms form a 90° angle, then your armrests are correctly adjusted. It is important that your elbows always rest on the armrests, as this is the only way to ensure that your body area relaxes. To set the optimal armrest height, the armrests should be height-adjustable. If you have a choice, you should opt for soft rather than hard armrests, because they are more comfortable and do not leave pressure marks on your forearms. 

It is important that the backrest is height-adjustable, because the top edge of the backrest should reach up to the shoulder blades. In addition, the backrest should be high enough so that the top edge is at least 45 centimetres above the seat. 

A lumbar support is an ergonomic back support. The lordosis is the lower part of the spine that is bent forward. The human spine is divided into five sections: Cervical spine, thoracic spine, lumbar spine, sacrum and coccyx. To ensure a healthy sitting posture, the lumbar support relieves the lower back. Therefore, the lumbar support should ideally be adjustable in height as well as in curvature. This support is especially important for people who already suffer from back pain. 

The rocking mechanism of a chair is designed to relieve the back muscles. Depending on the model, a gaming chair has the possibility to adjust the backrest very far backwards (up to 180 degrees). The tilting mechanism is a very ergonomic feature that significantly helps to reduce back pain. This is because it relieves the intervertebral discs if you are not constantly in a monotonous posture or sitting position. The mechanism should be adapted to the user’s weight, i.e. the resistance of the backrest should be adjusted so that only minimal force is applied when leaning back. A normal or even ergonomic office chair rarely has this built-in adjustment. 

The most important factors to look for in a gaming chair are ergonomics, quality and individual adjustment options. In general, the adjustment options of the chair are particularly important in combination with the ergonomics. This means that the more adjustment options a chair has (e.g. adjustability of the armrest, backrest, etc.), the more precisely you can find your desired position. As we can see, the ideas for a gaming table are unlimited. But not everything that shines brings more frags, as we all know. That's why we're going to take a closer look at what makes a good gaming desk.

Gaming desk vs home office desk - what's the difference?

Computer desk, office desk, home office desk and gaming desk - aren't they all the same thing? Where is the distinction made here?  A good desk should give you comfort and not get in the way of your health, i.e. be ergonomic. Computer desks and corner desks are first and foremost used to store documents and create more space and order. They include drawers and compartments and come in many different materials, shapes and colors. Ideally, a PC gaming desk fulfills two important requirements:  

To support you while gaming, especially in terms of ergonomics and comfort. For this reason, table manufacturers bring height-adjustable desks and tables with special tabletop shapes to the market.  

To perfectly fit your gaming setup. Gamer desks also stand out from the average office desk, often in terms of design and color choice. Ideally, there are several options to choose from for customization. 

Of course, there are also ergonomic home office tables. Here, however, office furniture manufacturers either compromise on the quality and functionality of the tables or charge high prices. This is because they are aimed at offices or companies with a corresponding budget.

The 5 most important factors in gaming desk selection

Gaming desks can vary greatly. We have listed which of the 5 most important criteria to consider.

First and foremost is the appearance of the gamer desk. A table takes up a lot of space in a room, so you should not compromise here. You have to decide for yourself if you want to make a statement - that is, if you want your table to look eye-catching and "scream gaming" - or if you are more minimalist. Do you have your own gaming room or corner? Then maybe an extravagant model will fit in. Is the table in the living room or home office? Then rather something more discreet.

Think carefully about the color of your desk. Again, take your cue from where you want your desk to be. White gaming desks are less noticeable, while black gaming desks stand out a bit more. Surrounded by black furniture or in contrast with white furniture, black desks can also look very modern without standing out too much.

Important note: Black desks, or furniture in general, magically attract fingerprints. Unless an anti-fingerprint coating is offered, you should keep that in mind as well.

The shape of the tabletop is also often an important element that makes a PC gaming desk stand out. Some models feature a cutout at the edge of the seat - this is to allow you to sit closer to the monitor and feel like you're part of the game. However, caution is advised here: Depending on the type of cutout, it is no longer possible to rest your forearms on the table. In addition, some space is lost, of course.

Corner gaming desk, square or rectangular? 

There are several forms of gaming desks: rectangular, square or corner. The most common shape is a rectangular table. You usually won't go wrong with this shape, as in most cases there is enough space for several screens and your PC. A square table is usually more compressed and doesn't give you the opportunity to spread out on your desk. Depending on the room layout, a corner gaming desk could also be an option. This way, you can make full use of your room space and save room. It's just more difficult to find a good, ergonomic model.

How much space do you need on your desk? Is one monitor enough or do you use three? A gaming desk shouldn't be too small, because computers, monitors and your pro-gamer mouse pad can take up a lot of space. 

Gaming desks with 140 cm or 120 cm are classified as small. Here usually only a monitor fits on it, possibly also a small PC, - otherwise this must stand on the floor. The depth is also important here. Gaming monitors often have large feet that require a lot of space. If the table is less than 70 cm deep, you might be limited in the optimal keyboard and mouse placement. 

You can also save space by using certain accessories, such as a PC mount or monitor arm.

When a gaming desk is big is of course subjective. In our eyes, a gaming desk is considered large from 160 cm. Two larger monitors and, depending on the size, a PC can be placed there without any problems. With three monitors or a streaming setup, it should already be a gaming desk from 180 cm.

A height-adjustable gaming desk can definitely be an option to better adapt the desk to one's needs and do something for health and ergonomics while gaming. As we all know, if you stay healthy longer, you play better longer.

Your seat height is a crucial factor for comfort and ergonomics. The optimal table height depends on your own body size as well as your seating preferences when gaming. Most office desks correspond to a standard height of 72 centimeters and are therefore only suitable to a limited extent. For example, if you are 173 cm tall, an ideal desk height of 68 cm is recommended. You can find more recommendations in our article "Optimal desk height".

For health reasons, there are many factors that speak in favor of changing the seat height more often or standing occasionally when gaming and working. This helps avoid neck and back pain, which can negatively affect gaming enjoyment and concentration. Standing not only stimulates the circulation and thus concentration, but also burns an average of 30% more calories than sitting. Of course, for many it is a change to stand at a table, but numerous studies prove the advantages of standing. So when farming or playing less hectic games, standing can be more beneficial than detrimental to you.

Differences in height-adjustable gaming desks 

Many desks can now be adjusted in height, but caution is advised here as well.  Height adjustable desks have legs that consist of either two or three segments. Desks with only two segments can be lowered to a maximum of 71 cm and raised to 121 cm. So if you have certain sitting or standing preferences or are relatively short or tall, this could already be a knockout criterion for you.  

Lastly, make sure that the height-adjustable gaming desk can lift enough load and is stable - a thick tower, monitors and other accessories can make a desk very heavy and wobbly.

Get a height-adjustable gaming desk at a discount or for free?

Desks for gaming can be made of different materials. But which material is best for a gamer desk?

In principle, it is important that the top is a durable material, such as solid plastic, or better yet, wood. For gaming desks made of wood, it would be necessary to distinguish whether the table top is made of chipboard or fiberwood. The latter is far more stable than chipboard in the "MDF" (Medium Density Fiberboard) version.Glass desks are nice to look at, but they are not practical. They are not very stable and will not forgive you many ragequits.Last but not least, you can also find some models in carbon look. This, in most cases, is a particle board top that comes with a carbon look plastic trim.

You can always upgrade your gaming PC desk, of course. Some accessories help you keep order on your gaming desk, some are for lifestyle and others are more bad than good.

Gaming desks with LED can complement the already existing RGB setup with PC, keyboard etc. or create a good ambience on their own. Make sure that the LEDs on the table are arranged in such a way that they do not disturb you while playing or working. Ideally, the table can also be linked to established software solutions for controlling RGB hardware.

Cable management systems are important to keep your room tidy. Cable clutter not only gives your gaming setup an unprofessional appearance, but can sometimes be annoying and distracting. There are several variations of gaming desks with cable management systems, such as cable rails or cable hoses or a combination thereof. Make sure they are large enough to accommodate entire power strips. 

A PC mount is very helpful if you don't want to put your computer on a table or on the floor. The computer is then hung under the desk top and is protected from dirt, dust and damage. Too much dust can block your fan and cause your PC to overheat. There are PC mounts in various sizes and designs. Make sure that the mount can carry a lot of weight - gaming PCs are usually quite heavy! 

A monitor mount or monitor arm helps you to adjust your screen to the perfect height for you. The most important feature is the swivel arm with its height adjustability. Monitor arms help you maintain a healthy posture while gaming and adjust the screen distance depending on the game. Another advantage is that you create more space on the table, because the feet are omitted! 

Gaming desks with drawers are less common. Especially keyboard drawers are a no-go for gamers, as they don't have a stable hold and offer no way to rest your hands and arms. It's generally more advisable to opt for a table without built-in drawers and then prefer to purchase and attach them later if needed.

Some models also come with a cup holder. Here, it is important to ensure that the holder can hold as many different sizes of bottles or cups stably as possible. Also, drink holders often look cheap and can therefore pull down the look & feel of your setup. 

Headset mounts are available either for on the table or as hooks for under the table. Some monitor models also have a fold-out mount. We don't have a recommendation here, as neither variant has any particular advantages or disadvantages.

Conclusion - Found the perfect desk? 

The perfect table for gaming should not only have a cool design, but also be robust, resilient and ergonomic. The design, in turn, is a matter of taste and also strongly depends on how the rest of your setup and your room looks. For a tidy gaming setup, the use of various accessories and a well thought-out cable management is recommended.

can have a positive effect on your performance in the long term - whether you're working or gaming. If you don't adjust it correctly, you may experience hand, neck or shoulder pain sooner or later. In this article we explain why changing the height of your chair is not enough and what else you need to pay attention to.

The most common height of a desk is 72 cm. This height is set as a standard nowadays, but it only serves as an ideal size for people who are around 180 cm tall. However, if you are shorter or taller than 180 cm, then this type of desk height is not a suitable option.  

In our blog articles, we generally talk about an "optimal" desk height and not a "correct" desk height. The idea that a single correct desk height exists is inherently outdated. While in theory there is a "perfect" sitting posture that most effectively relieves your body, any posture that you stay in for too long is inherently bad.

As mentioned earlier, there is no right or wrong standing or sitting position at the desk. It is only important to change your position more often. This is also known as "dynamic sitting" or standing. And for every position the following applies: You should feel comfortable! Ergonomically speaking, it's all about getting your body into an optimal position so that your muscles don't have to do much work. In e-sports, there are three main categories to consider:

Under certain conditions, you can get a height-adjustable desk provided by your employer, health insurance or similar. Tax-wise, however, there is definitely always something that can be done.

The proper desk height is crucial for an ergonomic sitting position

To be able to adjust your desk height properly, you have the following options:

You put, for example, wooden blocks or books under the legs of the desk to raise the desk.

You use a normal table attachment or a height-adjustable desk attachment. However, we advise gamers not to use these, as they are not very stable and your setup could wobble.

You use a height-adjustable desk. You can choose between a manually or electrically adjustable desk.

*Important: Not every height-adjustable desk can be moved to below 70 cm. Depending on your height and preference, this may call into question the usefulness of a height-adjustable desk. This limitation usually applies to 2-segment desks, but not to 3-segment desks (such as the LeetDesk).

Many people overlook the importance of monitor adjustment when setting their desk. Your desk height also affects your viewing angle. For example, the monitor should only be placed at a height where your eyes are in perfect contact with the display. Your eyes should not be strained.  Ideally, the monitor should be placed so that your eyes are on the top quarter of the monitor and 1 arm's length (± 1 hand's length) away. 

The monitor should also be tilted slightly backwards. Of course, the ideal position of your monitor also depends on your gaming genre. For FPS titles, gamers tend to have the monitor as close as possible in order to be able to recognize opponents more quickly and thus react faster. For strategy games, on the other hand, the overview of the entire monitor is preferred in order to better assess the situation and plan tactics.  

A monitor mount can help here to find the perfect monitor height for oneself or to change it depending on the game or work.

What happens if your desk is set too high? 

You'll be pushing your shoulders up to reach the desk height.

Sitting for hours in this position can cause spinal problems in the long run.  Your arms will be pushed up, affecting the blood supply there - Among other things, this leads to slower arm movements and thus poorer aiming.

A gamer beanbag is also not wrong with a PC gamer to have a little variety. Gaming beanbags can be found in different colors and variations. Here you should pay attention to the quality of the beanbag filling. The more bulging a beanbag is filled, the more expensive it is. The size of the beanbag as well as the beanbag cover also play a decisive role in the price. A gaming lamp not only gives you light, it's also hip and stylish. There are different types of lamps, such as a table lamp, wall lamp, floor lamp, etc., that you can put in your room. 

Having an additional clock in your room is very practical, because you can always see the time. Here you can also choose between a wall clock and a grandfather clock. Alternatively, you can make your own unique gaming clock with old hardware.

Gaming rugs, pictures, posters and whatever else you can get on the wall.

White walls are a bit boring in a gaming room. You can easily beautify the walls with pictures, canvases, wall tattoos or posters. Just pick a picture with your favorite game or character. Alternatively, you can also create a poster or a canvas motif yourself online, if you can't find a suitable poster. If you don't want to hang a picture as such on your wall, then you can also think about using LED panels to create a character. 

Rugs are a good addition to your gaming furniture and look stylish at the same time. If you want to pimp your gaming room a bit more, then you can get a themed rug.
