Setting up a beautiful gaming room is no easy task. The optimal gaming room includes many different components and the furnishing should always be seen as a process. How quickly you want to set up your gaming room, or how far you want to go into detail, depends of course on the size of your wallet on the one hand and on your available time on the other. If you don’t want to spend too much money, be sure to check out ebay, flea markets and other second-hand shops – every now and then you can find cool things to decorate. Depending on how creative and crafty you are, you can also build many things yourself out of wood or other materials. If furnishing an entire room for gaming is too much effort for you or you lack space, you can always limit yourself to furnishing a gaming corner.

Determine room size - gaming palace or gaming corner?

First of all, you should think about how much space you can and want to allocate to your gaming room. How do you want to set it up? Should it be a whole room or more of a gaming corner? We have listed the advantages and disadvantages of each option:

Now that you may have an idea of how big your room should be, you need to choose a suitable room for it. When choosing a suitable room, of course, it depends on the conditions at home. If you still live with your parents, it might be difficult to convince your dad to convert his study into a gamer den. Unless you have other empty rooms, you have no choice but to decorate your own room accordingly. So for you, a gaming corner probably makes more sense. But a gamer corner also makes sense for anyone who doesn't necessarily want to convert an entire room. For example, a guest room or training room can also be a gaming room at the same time.

What sounds cozy at first glance could turn out to be impractical, depending on the orientation of your gaming setup. If you place your table against the wall under a slanted roof, you can only use small monitors, depending on the slant, because they will otherwise hit the slant. It becomes even more problematic if you have or want to purchase a height-adjustable gaming table. This can then no longer be moved into a standing position.

What furniture, hardware and decorative elements are part of the furnishings of a modern gaming room?  

There are no limits when it comes to furnishing your gaming room. Of course, there are a few core components (e.g. table and chair) that belong in every room. If you spend a lot of time at the computer, you should also pay attention to the ergonomic qualities of your equipment. The more ergonomic your gaming furniture is, the better and longer you'll be able to play.

Your gaming setup is the heart of your room. However, your PC or console as well as the associated hardware like monitors, keyboard and co can influence the design of the rest of your room. If you have a minimalistic setup, a minimalistic design would also fit well. If you have a setup with a lot of colorful RGB lights, it's a good idea to make the whole room glow.

The desk is the foundation of your gaming room, as everything happens on it. Generally, it should have enough space for a large mouse pad and keyboard, dual or triple monitor setup. Especially for larger setups, it is also important to make sure that the tabletop is made of one piece and does not bend or collapse under heavy towers or streaming setups. If you attach importance to ergonomics and health, a height-adjustable desk also makes sense in order to always sit at the right height or even to play and work standing up.

The gaming chair is another core component that should not be skimped on. It should usually have elements such as backrest, armrests and height adjustability.

Unless you're a competitive gamer, you're more likely to need a comfortable couch or gaming chair if you're a relaxed console gamer. This way you can comfortably sit in front of your big flat screen or canvas. If you want to install a projector, you should make sure that your gaming room is large enough to provide enough distance between the projector and the screen. LED Gaming Room Lighting - Discreet or RGB Life?

The right lighting in a gaming room not only ensures a cool design, but also serves your health, safety and performance. It prevents premature fatigue, prevents bad posture and accidents, and also enhances performance. However, incorrect or excessive lighting can distract you, cause headaches, or irradiate the neighbors.

Daylight and artificial light therefore play an important role in setting up your gaming room. It is also important to pay attention to the angle of your screens to the window in order to avoid possible reflections. Remember, reflections can cost you the victory! You must always keep in mind how you can improve your own game from the outside and which factors play a role in this. Your screen should ideally be oriented across the window so that the sunlight hits the gaming surface from the side of your writing hand. Of course, it is always possible to work with curtains, but sometimes it is also quite pleasant not to have the game room completely artificially lit. Of course, LED light strips look pretty cool, but you should also make sure to let natural sunlight into the room.  

If you want to achieve top performance while gaming, you should also use more sunlight than LED lights in the room. The natural light of the sun is very important for the biological energy production of humans. The light flicker of LED lamps puts the human body under stress and can cause headaches, fatigue, migraines, exhaustion and concentration problems. Most of the time, people do not actively perceive the flickering light, but if you notice that you already perceive the flickering of the LED lamp, switch it off immediately!  

If you want to set accents with light sources in general, it is best to place them behind the screens. Shining direct light on the screen should also be avoided. This tires the eyes and weakens your ability to concentrate. The optimal lighting concept is a mix of direct and indirect lighting as well as a table lamp and daylight.  This way you can always decide for yourself whether the daylight is sufficient and which light source is best to switch on. Pendant, floor or wall lamps are also an optimal solution for perfect room lighting, as they not only emit their light downwards, but also distribute it indirectly in the gaming room. This way, the light is well distributed in the room and your spatial perception is also supported, since all surfaces get a structure and the room does not look monotonous.  

If you are aiming for the RGB Life, then make sure that you do not have any direct light in your eyes and that you take some time off from the LED light - preferably with natural sunlight.

It starts with the LAN cable and doesn’t seem to end. Unfortunately, almost everything needs a cable (loudspeakers, consoles, screens, PCs, lamps, etc.) and so there is often a cable chaos in the room. Not only does it look lame, in the worst case you might even trip over it.

Before we turn to cable management in general, we need to clarify an important question first: WiFi vs. LAN? By now, everyone has a WLAN-capable router at home, which is of course super practical and helps to save a lot of cable clutter. In addition, an unlimited number of devices can be used simultaneously. However, when it comes to FPS games like Counter-Strike, Call of Duty, Battlefield or Fortnite, a fast and interference-free internet connection is necessary. It often helps to connect the PC or console to the router with a conventional LAN cable, because the LAN connection has a higher transmission rate and is less susceptible to interference. Ideally, the router should be as close as possible to the PC or console to avoid unnecessary cable traffic. One thing is certain: it all depends on the ping! A WLAN connection is somewhat more susceptible to interference in this area and there can therefore be dropouts in the connection. This does not happen with a LAN connection. Even though you can connect more devices with WLAN, the connected devices have to share the power. With a LAN cable, on the other hand, each connected device receives the full speed.

As a solution, you can try to hide as much of it as possible under carpets and behind cupboards. In addition, you can also fold several cables together and turn them into one big cable with a cable tie. For the gaming desk, it makes sense to store as many cables as possible directly under the tabletop – either with a bunch of cable ties and tape or with a cable rail that is screwed under the desk.

Sound isolation - For streamers, sound enthusiasts and clairaudient neighbours

Who hasn’t experienced it? You’ve just had a super killing spree and already you can hear your mother scolding you to be quiet? Admittedly, a gaming room is typically quite noisy, the cries of despair or joy are often louder than you realise. However, good sound insulation not only protects your fellow occupants from noise, but also helps boost the sound quality in the gaming room itself and ensures clear sound during microphone recordings.

Carpets, thick curtains or even several pieces of furniture provide reasonably good sound isolation. But if you want to take it to the next level, you can buy a suitable sound insulation. Acoustic foam insulation ensures that the sound from your gaming room is greatly reduced. It’s best to use thick composite foams because the thicker the foam, the better the isolation. You must be aware that you are not allowed to attach anything to a foam wall (no pictures, posters, etc.) and you are not allowed to paint the foam wall. However, if you really want to spice up the wall, you can use wallpaper. Be careful, though, because the foam is soft and holes can easily appear if you touch the wall. On the other hand, you can also use sound absorbers or wall tiles in different shapes to make your wall a little more beautiful and still isolate the sound.

You now have your room so far that all components are in place, your gaming room accessories are ready for use and the right lighting is tuned? Perfect, then all that's missing now is the gaming room decor! Overall, you can say that there are three ways you can design your gaming room: Minimalist, RGB, Themed or a combination of all.

A minimalist gaming room is, as the name suggests, very minimalist in design. This design is suitable for all those who like things to be tidy and who see themselves and their gaming in the foreground. You only need the most important things: your desk, your chair and your PC. Playful PC accessories are not desired here. Since it’s all about gaming here, ergonomics also play a relevant role, so look for appropriately ergonomic gaming furniture. For many gamers, the gaming mouse is the most important element when it comes to performance. This is where trial and error is called for! Every hand and every gaming behaviour is different. So your individual needs for a gaming mouse may be completely different from those of your teammates. In general, you should pay attention to the overall attributes when testing: is the shape, size and weight right? If you want to be a little more precise, you can also take a closer look at the hardware, e.g. built-in sensors, and the gliding feet. In general, you can say that the gaming mouse must feel good to you personally. This also means that a good gaming mouse does not necessarily have to be expensive if it suits you.

Wireless gaming mice give your setup a particularly clean look by simply eliminating the cable on the tabletop. This makes everything look tidier in general and offers you more space on the table surface. In addition, a wireless gaming mouse gives you more freedom of movement than a wired mouse. So if your mouse moves back and forth on the table while gaming, a wireless gaming mouse is the better option for you. You don't have to worry about latency: Wireless technology is now better than wired technology in some cases. In the CS:GO Pro scene, for example, the majority play with wireless mice. You can adjust the speed of your mouse in the system or game settings. You should set it to match your hand movement in the game. If you tend to play from the wrist, which we do not recommend from an ergonomic point of view, you should choose a higher mouse speed. This way you can quickly check the area behind you in a first-person shooter. However, if your mouse slides over half the tabletop and you tend to play with larger arm movements, a slower mouse speed makes sense. As mentioned above, the gaming mouse should generally feel good to you. Super-light gaming mice can be moved particularly quickly. But again, it's your preference that counts.

The most important thing when choosing your mouse pad is the size of your desk. The larger the desk, the more space it offers for your mouse pad. Therefore, it is important to measure your table before buying a mouse pad. Then you should compare the dimensions of your desired mouse pad with the free space of your desk.

Basically, there are no one-size-fits-all mouse pads that are perfectly tailored to everyone. Because every player's needs, setup and playing style are unique. Here is a brief overview of the advantages and disadvantages of the different mouse pad sizes:

Mouse pads are made of different materials that have different properties. Most mouse pads are made of rubber or foam, which provide good friction and control. Although the mouse does not glide as fast on such pads as on other surfaces, they offer excellent "stopping power". This means that it is easier to stop the mouse on the dot and perform precise movements, such as targeting the opponent's head.

In contrast, there are also mouse pads that are very fast, such as those made of glass or hybrid materials. On such surfaces, the mouse glides very easily, which is especially useful when it comes to tracking the opponent or performing fast movements in games like Fortnite or Apex Legends.

In the end, it all comes down to your gaming experience.

Gaming keyboards are an important component of any gaming setup. A good gaming keyboard enhances the gaming experience and supports you in performing actions. Here are some aspects to consider when choosing a gaming keyboard:

The feel of gaming keyboards is an important factor for a pleasant gaming experience. Some gamers prefer a clicking sound and firm keystroke, while others prefer a quieter typing sound and softer keystroke. There are also different types of switches, such as membrane switches and mechanical switches, which offer different sensations. Mechanical switches are divided into Linear, Tactile & Clicky. Each group gives a different click feeling and key noise.

The size of a keyboard is an important factor that affects your gaming and typing experience. Standard keyboards have the full keys including a number pad, while compact keyboards are smaller and often remove some keys to save space. Tenkeyless keyboards do not have a numeric keypad and are suitable for players who need less space. You should also consider whether the keyboard is suitable for the games you play. For example, if you like MOBAs and RTS games, you shouldn't do without the F-key row. With shooters, you rarely need them, so space-saving variants are more likely to come into question. Latency, also known as delay, is an important factor affecting the performance of gaming keyboards. The lower the latency, the faster keystrokes are registered and converted. But don't worry, almost all gaming keyboards from renowned manufacturers have a high signal rate, so you don't have disadvantages in the response time.

Deciding whether to buy a gaming keyboard with or without LED lighting comes down to personal preference and needs. LED-lit keyboards offer a spectacular effect and can help to make keys easier to recognise, especially in dark environments. On the other hand, lighting can be distracting for some players and can drain the battery more quickly if it is a wireless keyboard.

If you decide on a custom keyboard, there are no limits to your creativity. There are now many different keycap designs: black, white, colourful, with motifs from your favourite game or completely individually designed keycaps. The best thing is that you can change them at any time and give your surroundings a new look.  The keyboard in particular can be a real eye-catcher in your gaming setup and give your peripherals a big boost of personality.

A good gaming headset should ideally be comfortable and sit well on your head. The ear cups should sit directly above and below your ears. Make sure they don't touch your lymph nodes! Otherwise, wearing headphones for hours on end will be torture. It is firstly important to distribute the weight evenly between the left and right sides so that no pressure points develop on the top of the skull. Buying a gaming headset is hardly any different from buying a pair of shoes. You should first test the headset and put it on to determine the ideal fit. A good gaming headset can also be recognised by its ergonomic fit. Each headset manufacturer and model has its own cut. Take your time and find out which shape works best for you!

Of course, sound quality also plays an important role when choosing a gaming headset.

In general, there are open and closed headphones/headsets. Closed headsets offer the advantage that outside noise cannot penetrate the hearing. However, it should be noted that such headsets often amplify bass frequencies, which can cause explosive sounds to sound overly dominant, while quieter sounds such as opponents' footsteps can be drowned out.

Open headphones are not equipped with a noise-cancelling function, which may make them less than ideal in noisy environments. However, they usually allow for better perception of subtle sound details, which can be important in competitive gaming.

With so much reliance on sound, maximising your audio setup should be a goal for every gamer. But you don't always have to dig deep into your wallet to do so.

Most gaming headsets come with an integrated microphone. The microphone should not restrict your view and should ideally be movable. It's best to test the microphone quality yourself and listen to the recording. To ensure that your teammates understand you, the sound should be clear and as free of noise as possible. You can adjust a few settings in the software, such as microphone sensitivity and volume. If you also stream in addition to gaming, you can switch to a higher-quality microphone model with a microphone boom arm. However, if you value performance and speed in the game, you are better off with an integrated microphone in the gaming headset. Not having a microphone boom arm on the table gives you more visibility and space for quick hand movements with the mouse.

The desk is the heart of your gaming room, after all, everything happens on it. A good desk should give you comfort and not get in the way of your health, i.e. it should be ergonomic. A gaming desk should not be too small. Your computer, monitors and pro-gamer mouse pad can take up a lot of space on a table. The following section will tell you whether you need a large or smaller desk:

Gaming desks of 140 cm or 120 cm are classified as small. Usually only one monitor fits on it, possibly also a small PC - otherwise it has to stand on the floor. The depth is also important here. Gaming monitors often have large feet that require a lot of space. If the table is less than 70 cm deep, you may be limited in the optimal keyboard and mouse placement.

However, you can also save space by using certain accessories, such as a PC mount or a monitor arm.

Which size makes a gaming desk large is, of course, subjective. In our eyes, a gaming desk is considered large from 160 cm. Two larger monitors and, depending on the size, a PC can be placed on it without any problems. With three monitors or a streaming setup, it should be a gaming desk of 180 cm or more.

In the course of a lifetime, people sit for up to 80,000 hours, which makes a healthy sitting position all the more important. The importance of ergonomics during long PC sessions is becoming more and more present in times of home office, in the gaming scene and even more so among professional gamers.  Sitting while working and gaming increases performance. A healthy posture promotes body and mind.  Signs of fatigue as well as concentration problems occur at a much later stage due to an optimal sitting position at the PC or can be avoided altogether for important sessions. Of course, a healthy sitting posture also helps to avoid future pain.

A sitting position that suits you is crucial. Gamers in particular should take a few minutes to optimize their sitting position, in addition to things like adjusting mouse sensitivity. This is at least as important for your long-term performance. Achieving optimal posture while working or gaming varies from person to person. This means you need to cater to your individual needs. Many people overlook the importance of monitor setting when adjusting their desk. Your desk height also affects your viewing angle. 

For example, the monitor should only be placed at a height where your eyes have perfect contact with the display. Your eyes should not be strained. Ideally, the monitor should be placed so that your eyes are on the top quarter of the monitor and 1 arm's length (± 1 hand's length) away.

You've no doubt searched for "the right desk posture" on the Internet, but we'd like to point out that the concept of a "single correct sitting posture" is outdated. Optimally, your posture consists of a mix of ergonomic and dynamic sitting. But what exactly is ergonomic and dynamic sitting?

As already mentioned, the optimal sitting posture consists of a mix of ergonomic and dynamic sitting. Ergonomic sitting means the posture in which you can sit at your desk for a long time without suffering postural problems in the long run. When sitting ergonomically, it is very important to pay attention to the correct angle of the legs, arms and back. This position puts very little strain on your body and muscles. Dynamic sitting, on the other hand, is very important for the constant promotion of blood circulation, here it is a matter of constantly changing the sitting position. In the ergonomic sitting position, your back should ideally be supported by the backrest of your chair in an upright position. The legs should rest on the floor at a comfortable 90° - 120° angle. To relieve shoulder strain, it's important to set your gaming desk at a height where you can rest your arms relaxed on the tabletop.

Even if this ergonomic sitting posture feels unfamiliar at first, it is still important to keep checking yourself in the beginning and readjust your posture. 

Unlike ergonomic sitting, dynamic sitting - or "active sitting" - is not a static posture in front of the PC. It's more about changing posture between, after and before gaming and working, because staying in the same static posture for too long isn't healthy in the long run either. Your muscles will protest if you just sit still. 

You don't have to feel guilty if you don't sit in the "right" (ergonomic) position at your desk, because the change is good for you. 

Especially when gaming, you often forget everything around you and therefore also to change your sitting position - especially when you are in an important match, raid or similar. Set yourself a reminder or other supports to remind yourself - your body will thank you.

Orthopedic cushions also help you to stay in constant motion, i.e. to sit dynamically. This also automatically trains your deep muscles, which are very important for the stability of your body. 

For games that require a lot of concentration and precision, we advise against the use of these cushions, because the wobble can be distracting! The situation is different for less intensive games like MMORPGs or auto-battler games, such as TFT. Of course, you can also use such a cushion very well when working in the home office.

What are the benefits of the right sitting position at the desk? 

An ergonomic sitting posture at the PC is optimal for the blood circulation of your body. But even better is a dynamic change of your posture: sometimes higher, sometimes lower, sometimes standing and sometimes walking a few steps. It is important that your legs are properly supplied with blood in between. A rough guideline is to stand or walk for about 10 minutes after 2 hours of gaming / working. 

You can concentrate better on your game without feeling pain after long sessions. With your correct sitting posture, you can stay focused longer and thus maintain or even increase your gaming performance. 

Overall, your responsiveness and performance will increase. Result: You will experience less fatigue. This also means you won't have pain (e.g. in your back or wrist) as quickly after long matches. Your body feels fit longer in general. "Proper" or "ideal" sitting helps your body draw strength and conserve energy because your body isn't tense at full speed.

3 tips for a healthy sitting position at the computer 

1. Train yourself to sit "correctly" or ergonomically. 

This position will probably seem strange or uncomfortable at first. In the beginning, try sitting like this for a few minutes every hour. In time, you'll find it easier and you'll notice your shoulders and neck relaxing. 

The more often you change your sitting position, the better! Also try to stand up in between; at best, walk a few steps. Set reminders or an alarm clock to remind you to change or get into a routine, e.g. always stand at map changes or zoom calls.

Upgrade your gaming setup or home office with ergonomic furniture

On a small wooden chair in front of a folding table, it's hard to have several comfortable and healthy sitting positions. If you care about your health, you should also be willing to spend a little money on it.

As a conclusion, the more dynamic adjustment options you have at your gaming desk or workstation, the better it is for your game, your work and your physical health. This way you'll always be fit for your next match or your next meeting at the home office.  Remember that it's not just about "sitting properly at the PC", but rather finding a healthy and relaxed sitting posture.

Gaming desks can vary greatly. We have listed which of the 5 most important criteria to consider.

First and foremost is the appearance of the gamer desk. A table takes up a lot of space in a room, so you should not compromise here. You have to decide for yourself if you want to make a statement - that is, if you want your table to look eye-catching and "scream gaming" - or if you are more minimalist. Do you have your own gaming room or corner? Then maybe an extravagant model will fit in. Is the table in the living room or home office? Then rather something more discreet.

Think carefully about the color of your desk. Again, take your cue from where you want your desk to be. White gaming desks are less noticeable, while black gaming desks stand out a bit more. Surrounded by black furniture or in contrast with white furniture, black desks can also look very modern without standing out too much.
